The publishing house was established in 1994 and, for nearly three decades, operated under the name Publishing House of the Higher School of Banking (Publisher ID 1000006676, ISBN prefixes 7205, 86808). In October 2023, due to changes resulting from the evaluation of academic activity and the WSB-DSW's acquisition of university status, the publishing house adopted a new name – WSB-DSW Merito Scientific Publishing House (Publisher ID 2100003024, prefix 974583). This change emphasized the scientific nature of the publishing house's activities and its role in the evolving scientific and research community.

Since its inception, the publishing house has consistently pursued its mission of disseminating scientific and expert knowledge nationally and internationally, publishing selected, important titles, including those in English. Published books support both the academic community – students, doctoral candidates, and research staff – and practitioners seeking up-to-date and reliable research in the social, economic, and legal sciences. The publishing house offers scholarly monographs, academic textbooks, specialized publications, and collective works prepared by experts representing various disciplines and research centers.

The publishing house places particular emphasis on the substantive quality of its publications and adherence to ethical standards in scholarly communication. All scholarly monographs and editorial monographs are subject to peer review by independent experts. The publishing process is conducted in accordance with publishing ethics principles, which aim to prevent unfair practices such as plagiarism, ghostwriting, and guest authorship. Maintaining transparent procedures and high-quality scholarly work is a foundation of the publishing house's operations.

In over thirty years of operation, the publishing house has published nearly 500 book titles.
