Common Europe. Ukraine and Poland under Conditions of Globalization and European Integration
The globalisation and integration processes lead to inevitable social and economic transformations to be observed in all European countries. Various issues involved in how national economies of Ukraine and Poland function were widely discussed at a joint scientific conference held in April 2010 in Pustomyty near Lviv. The conference was organised by the Economic Institute of the National Mining University in Dnipropetrovsk and the Wrocław School of Banking.
Meetings between Polish and Ukrainian scientists are of crucial importance for both countries. On one hand, Ukraine may benefit from Poland.s experience related to adaptation to the European structures and standards as well as evaluate the potential advantages resulting from the European Union membership. On the other hand, the Polish parties can learn about the current concerns of the Ukrainian economy which may contribute to intensification of the mutual economic collaboration between both states.
The subjects discussed at the conference included the main issues involved in how the national economies of both countries function. A lot was spoken about the impact exerted by globalisation processes taking place in the international economy on the development of innovation in European countries as well as on the functioning of capital and financial markets and tax systems.
The conference participants paid special attention to assessment of both countries. experiences in the sphere of macroeconomic and microeconomic processes. The problems discussed included stabilisation policy, issues related to the growth of SMEs as well as regional and local development. Among other problems commented upon, from the perspective of the current external and internal conditions, the most significant ones included environmental protection or the latest learning and teaching methods.
